Leipzig Zoo and “Gondwana Land”
Leipzig Zoo has one of the richest traditions of any zoo in Germany. It is home to over 900 species of animal. Monument to the Battle of the Nations - 300,000 tonnes of stone
The Monument to the Battle of the Nations (Völkerschlachtdenkmal) is a reminder of the 1813 battle. At 91 metres, it is one of the largest memorials in Europe. Visitors are impressed by the Ruhmeshalle pantheon and its guard statues, and the domed ceiling decorated with 324 almost life-sized equestrian paintings.
