Ideal destinations for a romantic city break

As well as welcoming guests of the Messe Frankfurt exhibition site the H4 Hotel Frankfurt Messe also enjoys great popularity among those paying a visit to the city on the River Main. The city of Frankfurt am Main in the south of Hesse is one of Germany’s largest metropolises. It is especially well-known for its financial centre and exhibition site, but it also offers lots to do for holidaymakers. The Frankfurt Book Fair, in particular, attracts large numbers of ordinary visitors as well as trade visitors each year. The historic Old Town and the romantic bank of the River Main are the ideal destinations for a romantic city break.

The most well-known events in the trade fair centre include the Buchmesse, Ambiente, Hair & Beauty, Christmasworld and the International Motor Show. From the H4 Hotel Frankfurt Messe, you can easily reach the trade fair grounds with the bus: from the stop 'Oeserstraße', line 54 takes you to the trade fair car park in just a few minutes, where the direct shuttle or line 50 can take you to the main trade fair entrance. There is plenty on offer for culture enthusiasts in the districts of Bockenheim and Westend, which the trade fair grounds are located in. The Titania theatre, the Deutsche Bundesbank's Money Museum and several art galleries invite you to explore.

The Titania theatre, the Money Museum of the German Federal Bank and the numerous art galleries are ideal places to spend some time. However, be sure to visit the Imperial Cathedral, the Römerberg square and the Goethe House in Frankfurt city centre too.

A day trip is a worthwhile choice for those looking to take a break from the exhibition site or wishing to see more of Frankfurt. Frankfurt Zoo is located in the middle of the city centre. Over 4500 animals from more than 500 species live here, including giraffes, hippopotamuses, gorillas and lions. From the H4 Hotel Frankfurt Messe, nature lovers can also quickly reach the city’s Botanical Garden. Situated in the Westend district, it is within walking distance and home to over 4000 plant species. 

Our hotel in Frankfurt am Main is also an ideal base from which to enjoy the nightlife. From rock and pop to jazz and classical music, the metropolis on the River Main offers a varied selection of clubs. Frankfurt’s Main riverbank

Frankfurt’s Main riverbank is an area for going out and a special kind of strolling promenade with a superb view of the skyline. The various cultural attractions, literary cafés and cosy beer gardens attract locals and visitors to the Main metropolis in equal measure.

You’ll find relaxation right on our hotel’s doorstep in the Frankfurt am Main green belt. The conservation area includes a third of the city area and offers numerous opportunities for recreation. Make yourself comfortable in one of the meadows or take a cycle tour on the park’s 62-kilometre-long cycling track. We particularly recommend the six-kilometre-long hiking trail known as the “Quellenwanderweg”, which takes hikers past over 20 springs of streams.

Coronation site “Kaiserdom St. Bartholomäus“

The catholic imperial cathedral “St. Bartholomäus”, with its striking late-gothic tower, was the site of the election and coronation of the German emperors. Today’s building dates from the years between 1250 and 1514, and the oldest parts date back to the 7th century. You can drive here in around 20 minutes from the H4 Hotel Frankfurt Messe.

Römerberg - the heart of the city

Römerberg, or “Roman mountain” is the main square in the Old Town, named after the “Römer“ town hall found there. The eastern side of the square is characterised by a row of Baroque houses, which is well-known as a tourist attraction and from the victory celebrations of the German national football team. You can drive to the square in around 20 minutes from the H4 Hotel Frankfurt Messe.

The “Museumsufer Frankfurt”, or Museum Riverside, is a collection if around 30 different museums such as the History Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Archaeological Museum, the Museum of World Cultures, the Film Museum, the Museum of Architecture or the world famous “Städel Museum”. You can drive here in around 20 minutes from the H4 Hotel Frankfurt Messe.

Johann Wolfgang Goethe was born in Frankfurt in 1749. The Rococo house owned by the Goethe family was set up as a memorial in 1863 by a civic organisation using historic sources. The museum houses displays of furniture, art, everyday items and documents. You will need about 20 minutes to get here from the H4 Hotel Frankfurt Messe by car.

As Germany’s second oldest zoo, today Frankfurt Zoo is increasingly devoted to the protection of endangered species. This means they show, and run protection programmes for, rare animals such as the Manchurian Crane or the Asian Lion. The zoo also runs the international pedigree book for some animals. The drive from the H4 Hotel Frankfurt Messe takes around 25 minutes.
