The Münster All-Weather Zoo
When building the All-Weather Zoo in Münster the planners came up with the idea of combining all of the big animal houses via roofed pathways. Since then these have been protecting the visitors not only from bad weather, but also providing shade during high summer. This concept, together with the more than 330 species of animal and the picturesque location of the zoo not far from the Lake As, draws almost one million visitors a year to the zoo.
A highlight of the
cityscape in the episcopal city of Münster is Saint Paul Cathedral.
Combining different architectural styles, the cathedral is located on
a small hill in the city centre and can be reached on foot in a few
minutes from the hotel. The artistically and culturally important
building attracts both believers and tourists alike. Guided tours are
possible outside of the hours of worship.
Together with the
adjoining buildings, the baroque electoral Münster Castle now forms
the main part of the university. Above and beyond this, it is at the
same time one of the most popular destinations for visitors to the
episcopal city. A botanical garden is also part of the castle; it is
encircled by a stelliform castle moat.
Not far from
Münster, the moated Hülshoff Castle invites interested parties to
discover the history of the castle and the life of the poet Annette
von Droste-Hülshoff. Amidst the greenery visitors can look around
the museum dedicated to the life of the poet and the expansive park.
The offer is complemented by a cafe-restaurant in the historic
vaulted cellar which also includes a sun terrace.
The baroque moated Nordkirchen Castle is one of the many worthwhile destinations for visitors in the region around Münster. In addition to the elaborate water installations, a park around 70 hectares in size forms part of the castle complex. By registering in advance, visitors can take part in guided tours of the park. More than 500,000 visit the “Westphalian Versailles” every year.
The historic street close to the town hall, with its many merchants’ houses, has been inviting visitors for a shopping spree for centuries. The distinctive design of the gabled houses on both sides of the main marketplace characterise the look of the historic old town in Münster.More information
