Alpine charm, nature and plenty of peace and quiet
If you would like to go hiking during your holiday in Oberstaufen, you can start your walk directly from Königshof Hotel Resort Oberstaufen . Just 200m from the hotel, you will encounter the Oberstaufen-Eibele-Aach circular path, which - at 13km and featuring no challenging ascents - is manageable for most inexperienced walkers. This pleasant route runs along the southern slope of a mountain range past a game park before reaching the Eibelesee lake and the Eibele waterfalls as well as the crab waterfall. The route back leads you along the Weißach river through meadows and forests, passing through the district of Weißach before it returns you to Oberstaufen.
If you are holidaying in the Oberstaufen-Steibis-Aach region, you shouldn't miss out on a visit to the Negalfluhkette natural park. The 1,833m Hochgrat, located to the south-east of the village, also belongs to this Alpine area. Enjoy a view of the stunning landscape at any time of the year during a guided hike or an energetic ski-run in the active holiday region of Oberstaufen. With the Hochgrat train, the ascent itself is an experience.
In this mountain station, located at a height of 1,708m and offering a view over the main Alpine ridge as far as Lake Constance, regional delicacies - both sweet and savoury - await you. It takes around ten minutes to reach the Hochgrat train station by car from Königshof Hotel Resort Oberstaufen.
A hike through the Eistobel nature reserve is a popular activity during family holidays in Allgäu. It extends for around 3km along the gorge of the same name between the Argentobel Bridge and Schüttentobel. The signposted walking routes are also suitable for children, and the roaring waters of the Obere Argen river offer an exciting and romantic backdrop. With larger and smaller cascades, the river plummets 70m down into the gorge, framed by cliffs of up to 130m at the sides.
You can reach the Eistobel carpark at the northern entrance to the gorge in around 20 minutes by car from Königshof Hotel Resort Oberstaufen. Here, you will also find a small information centre.
Near to Oberstaufen, you will also find the Großer Alpsee, the largest natural lake in Allgäu. It offers many opportunities for hiking, cycling and watersports. The nearby Alpsee Bergwelt promises plenty of fun. The ascent takes about one hour on foot, but you can also reach the mountain station quickly and conveniently by using the chairlift. Here, Bavaria's largest high ropes course invites you to take a climb, while the "Abenteuer Alpe" mountain playground will delight both younger and older children alike.
For the return journey, you can look forward to another highlight: the "Alpsee Coaster" is the longest all-year-round toboggan run in Germany. From Königshof Hotel Resort Oberstaufen it takes around 20 minutes to reach the Bergwelt valley station by car.
Castle Neuschwanstein is famous all over the world. It looms over the town of Hohenschwangau bei Füssen like something out of a fairytale. The Bavarian Kind Ludwig II commissioned the construction of the castle - with its many towers, gables and balconies - from 1869, in the style of Romanticism and Historicism. The throne room and singers' hall are especially worth seeing. Neuschwanstein's singers' hall was inspired by the Wartburg Singers' Hall and was particularly dear to the king's heart.
The richly painted throne room spreads across two floors and is surrounded by colourful arcades on three sides. We recommend that you reserve tickets in advance. It takes around one hour to reach the castle by car from Königshof Hotel Resort Oberstaufen.
