The Eiffel Tower - H4 Hotel Wyndham, Paris Pleyel

The Eiffel Tower

no visit to Paris is complete without it

There are only a handful of monuments around the world which can rival the Eiffel Tower’s fame. It is not only the iconic landmark of Paris, but also a symbol of France in its entirety. Even today, the delicate wrought-iron structure is still surprising: How is it that a building more than 300 meters tall can appear so light? The tower, built by Gustave Eiffel, was inaugurated in 1889 for the Paris world’s fair and to celebrate the centennial of the French Revolution. It remained the world’s tallest building until 1930 and is still the tallest building in Paris even today – at more than twice the height of the Tour Pleyel. As more than seven million people visit the monument every year, the queues are always long – but the wait is worth it! Make your way up the stairs on foot or take the elevator. Even from just the first level, the view is spectacular.

But if you go up all the way to the top, it becomes truly breathtaking. Looking north, you can easily make out your hotel in Saint-Denis! Taking the metro line 13 to “Invalides” and the RER C to “Champs de Mars”, you reach the Eiffel Tower from the H4 Hotel Wyndham, Paris Pleyel in about 30 minutes. Back at the hotel in the evening, you do the same in reverse, going up to our rooftop bar to see the illuminated Eiffel Tower. Thanks to the H4 Hotel Wyndham, Paris Pleyel’s perfect location, you get to enjoy a sublime panorama of Paris and its surroundings.

Notre Dame - H4 Hotel Wyndham, Paris Pleyel

The Île de la Cité with Notre-Dame cathedral

The Île de la Cité, an island in the Seine River, is where Paris has its roots. This is where the Roman city of Lutetia was located. Even today, the island is considered the heart of the city and all of France. Here stands the cathedral of “Notre-Dame de Paris”, one of France’s oldest and biggest Gothic cathedrals. The imposing church, built from 1163 to 1345, was badly damaged in a fire on August 15, 2019, and is currently being rebuilt true to the original. In front of the cathedral, you can also find the “point zéro” – the zero milepost from which the distances of all towns in France are measured. Other sights on the island of the inner city of Paris are the Palais de Justice, the former palace chapel of Sainte-Chapelle, the Place Dauphine, and the Mémorial des Martyrs de la Déportation – a memorial to the victims of deportation during the Second World War.

To reach the Île de la Cité from the H4 Hotel Wyndham, Paris Pleyel, take the metro line 13 from “Carrefour Pleyel” to “Mairie de Saint-Ouen” and from there, take line 14 to “Châtelet”. This is where the convenient location of the Tour Pleyel really pays off: You can hardly get to the heart of Paris any faster.

Louvre - H4 Hotel Wyndham, Paris Pleyel

The Louvre and the Tuileries

For visitors from around the world, the Louvre is among Paris’ main attractions. In former times, the majestic palace on the banks of the Seine River was the kings of France’s residence. An art museum opened here as early as 1793. Today, the Louvre, with an area of 72,000 sqm and 35,000 works of art on display, is the largest and most visited art museum in the world. Thanks to the distinctive glass pyramid located right at the center of the ensemble, its entrance is hard to miss. Center piece of the exhibition is Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa”. Just as noteworthy, however, are the collections of antiquities, Renaissance art, Flemish paintings from the 16th and 17th century, and French paintings from the 15th to 19th century. Another thing to admire at the Louvre in Paris are the French crown jewels. Right next to the palace is the Jardin des Tuileries, the royal garden, which today is an important place for Parisians to meet up and see and be seen. To get to the Louvre from the H4 Hotel Wyndham, Paris Pleyel, simply take the metro line 13 to “Champs-Elysées/ Clemenceau” and then switch to line 1, which will take you directly to “Palais Royal/Musée du Louvre”.
