Visit the city of Leipzig and experience its history

Leipzig has many cultural attractions. The famous St. Thomas Church, where Bach was once the choirmaster, and the world-famous Gewandhaus concert hall, are close to one another. The university is next to the Gewandhaus. If you have read Goethe’s Faust, then you might like to visit the famous Auerbachkeller. This is close to the Mädler Passage. There you can relax, shop and enjoy the interesting architecture. In the evening, there is plenty of culture and an interesting nightlife in Leipzig for you to enjoy. Go to the theatre or visit one of the many bars and clubs that make the city centre a great place to spend the evening.

 

Battle of the Nations memorial

For those who love history, the Battle of the Nations memorial is worth a visit. It is just outside Leipzig but is easy to reach using public transport or car.

The Battle of the Nations memorial near Leipzig commemorates the resolution of the war of liberation in 1813 when Austria, Prussia, Russia and Sweden defeated Napoleon. The imposing, 91-metre high memorial is one of the largest in Europe.

St. Thomas Church

St. Thomas Church, built around 1200, is one of two important churches in Leipzig city centre. It is well-known for the Thomanerchor, one of the longest-running boys’ choirs in Germany as well as for being the resting place of Johann Sebastian Bach.

There is plenty to see in the area around Leipzig
